Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation: Policy on Faculty and Provider Leave

Introduction

Purpose

This Policy provides Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R)-specific guidelines and procedures necessary for obtaining leave.

Scope

Part-time and full-time faculty/staff that hold a primary appointment in PM&R. Eligibility is also based on job classification of the employee (Physicians, APP, etc.).

Policy Statement

  1. Vacation and Professional Development Leave
  • The requests for and scheduling of vacation and professional development leave are subject to advanced approval by the PM&R ACA and/or Chair to ensure appropriate schedule coverage. Requests must be submitted in writing at least six (6) weeks in advance of the requested dates.
  • Specific processes and requirements are provided in the PM&R Procedure for Faculty and Provider Leave
  1. Sick Time and Emergency Leave Requests
  • If a faculty member or provider will be absent from work due to sudden illness or an emergency situation, they must contact the Department (or relevant facility) ASAP. It is the faculty member or provider’s responsibility to speak directly to staff at the assigned work location to inform them of the absence and the need to reschedule/provide coverage for appointments and impacted services. The faculty member/provider must stay in daily contact with work location to ensure continued communication, coverage and documentation related to absence.
