Department of Emergency Medicine: Policy on Alcohol

Introduction

Purpose

It is recognized that alcohol may be purchased and consumed at events which are either sponsored by or related to the Department of Emergency Medicine, and it is important to clarify the Department’s position on the purchase and/or provision of alcohol.

Scope

This policy pertains to all individuals attending a function either sponsored or endorsed by the Department of Emergency Medicine.

Policy

Policy Statement

Departmental funds (clinical, state, Medical Foundation, overhead, etc.) cannot be used for the purchase of alcohol under any circumstances.

At the discretion of faculty and/or staff responsible for organizing an event, alcohol may be made available for individuals to purchase at their own expense.

Emergency Medicine will cover the cost of transportation home (cab ride, Uber, etc.) for anyone attending an Emergency Medicine event regardless of whether they are affiliated with the Department.
