Adams School of Dentistry: Policy on Terminal Leave for Faculty

I. Introduction

A. Purpose

The purpose of this Policy is to establish consistency among Adams School of Dentistry faculty and departments with respect to the use of terminal leave in a manner that does not compromise the delivery of patient care and other business operations.

B. Scope

This Policy applies to all compensated faculty members who accrue annual leave. Please note that eligibility for annual leave is dependent on the faculty’s Full Time Equivalent ("FTE") status. As of the date this Policy went into effect, faculty at 0.75 FTE or greater accrue annual leave per University policy.

II. Policy

A. Policy Statement

Faculty members who intend to separate from University employment (e.g. resign, decline re-appointment, retire) and who have remaining annual or bonus leave at the time of their anticipated separation are limited to using ten (10) continuous days of such leave just prior to separation, such that their date of separation may be fourteen (14) calendar days after their last day of work. This Policy does not affect or eliminate the requirement that faculty present on site their last day prior to separation in order to complete required close out procedures.

In accordance with University policy and guidelines, faculty members forfeit any remaining unused leave upon separation. Faculty members may donate remaining leave to the University's Voluntary Shared Leave Program if desired.

This Policy does not affect use of leave in other circumstances, including use of annual or bonus leave during the normal course of employment and following notice of anticipated separation but while the faculty member is still in active work status.

B. Exceptions

This Policy does not apply in the case of termination for cause.
