University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Policy on State of North Carolina Distinguished Professorship Matching Grant Program
Purpose
The purpose of this Policy is to stimulate private support and commitment to strengthening the faculties and promoting excellence the General Assembly established the Distinguished Professors Endowment Trust Fund to receive and match challenge grants to create endowed chairs for distinguished professors. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill ("UNC-Chapel Hill" or "University") is committed to raising funds to be matched by the 2:1 State matching funds for an endowed professorship to serve as a supplement to salary and other resources to attract and retain experts in their field of study.
Scope of Applicability
This Policy applies to University administrators, fundraisers, and donors.

Policy Statement
The North Carolina General Assembly established the Distinguished Professors Endowment Trust Fund in 1985. The Fund provides challenge grants for endowed professorships at each of the University of North Carolina System campuses. The Fund is administered by the University of North Carolina System Board of Governors.
UNC-Chapel Hill is committed to raising funds to be matched by the State. The State program provides 2:1 matching funds for endowed professorships established by donors with four levels of funding. UNC-Chapel Hill matches all funds received from the State program.
