University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Student Fee Waiver Policy
Introduction
Purpose
This policy implements UNC System Policy 1000.2.2, Policy on the Waiver of Tuition and Fees for Faculty and Staff, specifically the portion of the related regulation 1000.2.2.1[R] requiring each institution to establish policies and procedures consistent with the aforementioned policy.
Scope of Applicability
This policy applies to students enrolled in academic credit bearing programs at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Policy
Policy Statement
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill students meeting one of the following criteria for the entire term they are enrolled may receive a fee waiver:
- The student is employed by any constituent institution of the University of North Carolina, UNC Health Care and UNC General Administration in a permanent job position on a recurring basis and works 30 or more hours per week for nine or more months per calendar year.
- The student is the spouse of a full-time permanent employee of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill or UNC Health Care.
- The student is personnel of the United States armed forces during the time he or she is assigned under military orders to an ROTC program of a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina as a permanent change of station or civilian personnel federally employed 30 or more hours per week on a continuing basis in a position adjunct to an ROTC program of a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina or assigned to The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill under military or civilian orders from the ROTC.
Application fees may be waived through the appropriate Admissions Office.
The Request for Waiver of Student Fees form (please see the form links at the bottom of this page) must be submitted to the Cashier's Office for approval no later than the last day to drop a class for tuition credit (see the term Census Date) for the term for which the waiver is being applied. UNC System and Health Care employees who have submitted a Tuition Waiver Application for Faculty/Staff Online Form do not need to also submit the Request for Waiver of Student Fees form to the Cashier’s Office for the same term.
Exceptions
The fee waiver policy only applies to regular mandatory student fees. The student remains responsible for any program, orientation, or course-specific fees, as well as the Late Registration fee when applicable.
