Introduction

Purpose

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (“University”) is committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members of our community. As part of this commitment, the University’s policy is to comply with the NCAA Board of Governors Policy on Campus Sexual Violence to the extent allowed by applicable law.

Scope

This Policy applies to all incoming, continuing, and transfer student-athletes.

Policy Statement

The University will comply with the requirements of the NCAA Board of Governor's Policy on Campus Sexual Violence to the extent allowed by applicable law.

Definitions

Interpersonal Violence: Any violence or attempted violence directed at a romantic or intimate partner, spouse or partner, family member, or cohabitant or household member.

Sexual Violence: Any forcible or nonforcible sex offense, including but not limited to, sexual assault, sexual battery, fondling, incest, statutory rape, and rape.

Stalking: A course of conduct based on sex directed at a specific person that would cause a reasonable person to fear for the person’s safety or the safety of others or suffer substantial emotional distress.

Other Sex-Based Misconduct: Any misconduct based on sex, including but not limited to, sexual or gender-based harassment.

Other Acts of Violence: Crimes including but not limited to murder, manslaughter, aggravated assault, or any assault that involves the use of a deadly weapon or causes serious bodily injury.
