The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is dedicated to instruction, research, and providing service to the people of North Carolina and of the nation. It is the policy of this University that its faculty, staff, and students carry out their scholarly work in an open and free atmosphere, and that consistent with applicable laws and policy they publish the results of such work without restraint.
This policy outlines the responsibilities of IRB members for making known any potential or perceived conflicts of interest (COI) concerning protocols reviewed by the IRB. No IRB member may participate in the review of any research project in which they have a COI, except to provide information, as requested. It is the responsibility of each IRB member to disclose any COI related to a study submitted for review and to recuse him/herself from the deliberations and vote by leaving the room.
The purpose of this Policy is to outline expectations for Student use of copyrighted materials and other intellectual property of the University, creators, and inventors. This Policy applies to all Adams School of Dentistry Students and Residents (referred to collectively as "Students" for purposes of this Policy).
The Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) occasionally has the opportunity to acquire equity in companies on behalf of the University as consideration for a license agreement. Inclusion of equity in such agreements may be in the best interest of technology transfer. Young companies often do not have the requisite cash reserves to compete with an established company for rights to University technology.
