Facilities Services: Building Access Card Policy

Introduction

Purpose

Scope

Policy

Due to the increase in the number of campus buildings being added to the Card Access System, it has become necessary for Facilities Services and non-University personnel to gain access to these buildings. The following policy will be effective Friday, February 20, 2004 for access to card reader equipped buildings:

Permanent Access for Facilities Services Employees

Supervisors will be given permanent 24/7 access to all campus buildings. Call back personnel will have 24/7 access by using a call back card which will be located in the call back kit. Managers will determine if other employees will be given permanent access.

Temporary Access for Facilities Services Employees

Temporary access may be obtained by activating the employee's UNC One Card. This can be done by contacting the Hardware Shop either by phone at 962-1269 or in person. The activation will be time limited. It is not necessary to contact the Hardware Shop to deactivate a card.

Temporary Access for Non-University Personnel

Temporary cards may be obtained for non-University employees from the Hardware Shop. The Facilities Services employee presents a valid UNC One Card to verify authorization. The non-University person presents personal and professional credentials. A temporary time-limited card will be issued to a designated building. If the card is lost, stolen, misplaced or not returned, a replacement fee of $50.00 will be charged. If the card is used to the detriment of the University other fees and penalties may apply.

Note: A valid UNC One Card is required before a permanent and/or temporary card can be issued. A One Card is issued when an employee begins University employment. If for any reason this card needs to be replaced, this can be done at the One Card office on campus at no charge to the employee.
