Introduction

Purpose

This policy outlines Campus Health Services' legal obligation to report certain information to public health and law enforcement agencies. It specifies the procedures and contacts for reporting gunshot and stab wounds, animal bites, suspected child abuse/neglect, and communicable diseases.

Scope

Based on the document, this policy applies to the Medical Staff and Infection Control Committee at Campus Health Services.

Policy

Campus Health Services is legally required to report certain information to public health and law enforcement agencies.

Procedure

  1. Gunshot and stab wounds must be reported to Campus Police at 919-962-8100.
  2. Animal bites must be reported to the Animal Control section of the Orange County, NC Health Department
    1. During regular hours, call 919-942-7387
    2. During after-hours, call 911 and ask for Animal Control.
  3. Suspected child abuse/neglect is reported to the Child Protective Services section of the Orange County, NC Department of Social Services at 919-245-2800
  4. Communicable diseases are reported to the appropriate public health authorities in accordance with the North Carolina General Statutes (N.C.G.S.) Section 130A-135 and North Carolina Administrative Code (NCAC) 10A NCAC 41A .0101. See also Campus Health Policy C-01: Communicable Disease Reporting.
