This procedure explains the following:
• How University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (“UNC-Chapel Hill” or “University”) units can request space assignments;
• How the University’s Space Management Committee, Provost, and Vice Chancellor for Finance and Operations evaluate space assignment requests; and
• How the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Finance and Operations communicate their space assignment decisions to the University units affected by those decisions.

The purpose of this policy is to establish a clear and structured approach to how the University allocates and manages the University’s physical spaces. The goal is a data-informed, equitable, and transparent process that empowers the University to achieve its strategic objectives.

This document explains the terms, conditions, and cancellation procedures associated with the Carolina Housing Contract, which is a legally binding agreement between students and Carolina Housing. It outlines when and how students may cancel their contract, what fees apply based on student type and timing, and under what circumstances the University may approve a contract termination.

It is the intention of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to insure that currently owned space is utilized with the greatest efficiency. The University Administration wants to assure that Carolina leases space only when it is appropriate to do so given the nature of the space needed, the location of the programs and the space demands on the campus. When leasing is required, the University Administration also wants to assure the rental rates are cost/beneficial.
