Summary

The University recognizes the importance of community involvement and encourages employees to participate in volunteer activities by providing flexibility in work schedules and paid leave opportunities. Community Service Leave (CSL) is a paid time off program to participate in the educational process of children through the high school level and to support other community service volunteer activities for non-profit organizations.

Introduction

Purpose

The University recognizes the importance of community involvement and encourages employees to participate in volunteer activities by providing flexibility in work schedules and paid leave opportunities. Community Service Leave is a program for eligible employees that provides paid time off to participate in the educational process of children through the high school level and to support other community service volunteer activities for non-profit organizations. 

Scope of Applicability

Permanent, probationary, and time-limited SHRA and EHRA (including faculty) employees who work half time or more, subject to the eligibility rules in applicable state and UNC System Office policies.  

Policy

With approval from their supervisor, University employees may be eligible for Community Service Leave subject to the terms and requirements as outlined in the:

  • North Carolina Office of State Office of Human Resources Community Service Leave Policy (for SHRA employees); and 
  • UNC Policy Manual 300.2.22, Leave Programs for Faculty and Staff Exempt from the North Carolina Human Resources Act (for EHRA employees including faculty).
