This policy outlines the responsibilities of IRB members for making known any potential or perceived conflicts of interest (COI) concerning protocols reviewed by the IRB. No IRB member may participate in the review of any research project in which they have a COI, except to provide information, as requested. It is the responsibility of each IRB member to disclose any COI related to a study submitted for review and to recuse him/herself from the deliberations and vote by leaving the room.

Conflict of interest relates to situations in which financial or other personal considerations may compromise, have the potential for compromising, or have the appearance of compromising an employee's objectivity in meeting University duties or responsibilities related to the purchase of equipment and other supplies. This policy protects the University from these types of situations.

Inclusion of equity in such agreements may be in the best interest of technology transfer. Young companies often do not have the requisite cash reserves to compete with an established company for rights to University technology.

Students, faculty, constituent dental societies, state boards of dentistry, and other interested parties may submit an appropriate, signed complaint to the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) regarding any CODA-accredited dental, allied dental or advanced dental education program, or a program that has an application for initial accreditation pending.
