A Concussion occurs when there is a direct or indirect insult to the brain. As a result, transient impairment of mental functions such as memory, cognition, equilibrium, and vision may occur. This document contains the policies and procedures regarding sports related concussions.

As required by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, this Policy is intended to provide protocols to help determine UNC student-athletes who have Sickle Cell Trait. It also sets forth subsequent measures to be taken in the event a UNC student-athlete is determined to have Sickle Cell Trait.
