The Department of Applied Physical Sciences strives to establish a community of scholars throughout the university while retaining a core sense of mission and scholarship. For these reasons, adjunct appointments should be intentional and considered in terms of mutual benefit for the scholar and the department.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (the "University") hosts approximately 1,000 postdoctoral scholars on its campus each year. Postdoctoral scholars ("Postdocs") are hosted in many different departments, schools and centers throughout the University.
