The Undergraduate Dental Hygiene Program (“Program”) regularly monitors and assesses the academic performance and progression of each student enrolled in the program. Upon entry, each class/student is assigned an Academic Advisor who will monitor the student’s progress towards degree completion. While students are required to have an initial meeting with their advisor upon entering the program, additional meetings may be recommended depending on specific student needs.

This Procedure explains remediation opportunities for first-year PharmD students at the Eshelman School of Pharmacy who fail a course, including eligibility criteria, the process, and the timing for both full remediation and retesting. It also addresses downstream consequences, including effects on immersion scheduling and dual-degree eligibility, and offers recommendations for course directors on designing grading schemes that support student mastery and reduce the need for remediation.

This Policy establishes the grading structure and standards of advancement for Medical Science courses in the Foundation Phase of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine’s Medical Doctorate degree Program.
