Responsibility
The Housekeeping Services Department is responsible for the planning and implementation of the daily custodial services performed in academic, administration, laboratory, research, physical education, residence halls, and allied buildings on and off campus.
Cleaning Schedule
Housekeeping employees are assigned by location and time schedule to accomplish custodial responsibilities in the most expeditious manner possible depending on the functions performed in the buildings. These employees may not deviate from these work schedules without supervisory permission. Most programmed custodial activities are scheduled between 12:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. Some research laboratory buildings and several other buildings on and off campus are cleaned between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 12:30 a.m., Monday through Friday. Residence halls are cleaned between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Special Services
Stripping and resealing of tile, terrazzo, concrete, and wood floors and carpet shampooing are scheduled and accomplished by a specialized floor maintenance crew between 5:00 p.m. and 1:30 a.m., Monday through Friday.
Security
Housekeeping employees are identified on demand by an identification card and uniform work clothing. Each housekeeping employee is issued sufficient pass keys to accomplish assigned custodial responsibilities. These employees are instructed not to open locked doors for any individual other than housekeeping supervisory personnel. Keys are accounted for and secured in a locked container when not in the possession of the employees. Housekeeping employees are instructed to report any security violations to their zone managers for action, or in an emergency, directly to the Campus Police.
Supplies
Expendable custodial supplies are provided to each housekeeping employee in sufficient quantity and quality to accomplish their assigned responsibilities. Requests for expendable custodial supplies for activities other than for housekeeping services will not be honored. Requests for purchase and utilization of special custodial supplies and or products will not be honored except upon justifiable request in writing and with the approval of the Director of Housekeeping Services Department.
Service Rooms
Housekeeping closets, supply rooms, employee locker rooms and administrative offices are located throughout the buildings serviced by the Housekeeping Services Department and are secured with a housekeeping master key. This space may not be used for other activities for any reason without the approval of the Director of Housekeeping Services Department.
Moving Services
Moving services are available from the Housekeeping Services Department. Services include office relocations, room evacuations, and items bound for the landfill or surplus. Unfortunately, we are unable to move technology equipment such as computers, printers, and copiers. A move request should be submitted online through the Facilities Services website. Once a move request has been submitted and received, you will be contacted by the Moving Crew to schedule a date/time for the move. The moving service does not include the assembly or disassembly of modular furniture. If you require this service, please make a general work request and note this information on the Facilities Services website. There is a charge for moving services.
Limitations on Items Moved
Housekeeping Services cannot move the following items:
- Pianos

- Delicate instruments
Special Request
As a service organization, we wish to support the various University activities in the most professional manner possible. Therefore, it is desired that the appropriate housekeeping zone manager or the housekeeping office be notified as far in advance as possible for requested one-time or temporary changes in normally scheduled custodial services. In the event it is impossible to comply with the request through departmental resources, Housekeeping Services will, upon request, provide guidance about obtaining the requested service.
Permanent Request
Requests for permanent changes in scheduled custodial services must be forwarded in writing to the Director of Housekeeping, Housekeeping Services Department, CB # 1850. Unusual policies or requests, such as doors to be left unlocked; lights to be left on; benches, areas, or rooms not to be cleaned, must be forwarded in writing for record purposes.
Emergency Request
Emergency requests for housekeeping services are situations in which the health and welfare of individuals are endangered, or when buildings, equipment, or property could be damaged or destroyed. Examples include fire or flood. For emergency housekeeping services from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, contact the Housekeeping Office, 962-6586.
