School of Government: VIP Parking Policy

Introduction

Purpose

This policy outlines the parking regulations and guidelines for the Knapp-Sanders Deck at the School of Government, with a focus on managing limited parking availability. It establishes who qualifies for reserved VIP parking spaces and sets expectations for guest and visitor parking, enforcement, and communication.

Scope

This policy applies to School of Government visitors, guests, program attendees, instructors, and VIP guests who use the Knapp-Sanders Deck for parking.

Visitor and Guest Parking Policy

Parking for School of Government visitors is primarily available in the Knapp-Sanders Deck, adjacent to the Knapp-Sanders Building, home of the School of Government. Guests of the School, including program attendees and instructors must follow the School's process for parking passes and access to the Knapp-Sanders deck.

This policy outlines the parking regulations/guidelines for School of Government VIP guests and clients due to limited parking availability on the Knapp-Sanders parking deck. The policy aims to prioritize parking for clients and guests while ensuring accessibility for authorized individuals.

Individual parking spaces will not regularly be reserved for visitors or *instructors. Due to limited parking availability on the Knapp-Sanders deck, spaces may be reserved for VIPs, as defined below, visiting the School of Government.

*In some cases a parking space may be reserved for a non-SOG instructor arriving on a day that is likely to have overflow parking (over 130 estimated clients) to facilitate their on-time arrival. Program Managers will make arrangements with Facilities to reserve a space well in advance of the program start date.

VIP Parking

Reserved parking spaces can be designated for the following guests particularly in overflow situations upon advanced request to the facilities team:

  • University President, Chancellor or Provost and Executive Team
  • Board of Trustees Members
  • Board of Governor Members
  • Foundation Board Members
  • SOG Services Board Members
  • Executives of Strategic Partners Groups: i.e., AOC, IDS, NCLM, NCACC, Civic/LGFCU
  • State Level Officials: i.e., Chief Justice, Governor
  • Individuals with approved accessibility permits

Communication

Information on parking availability (or lack thereof), permits, and enforcement procedures will be available on course websites, Canvas, the University website and through relevant communication channels as needed. Program Managers will communicate parking instructions to outside speakers and VIPs accordingly with other instructor information.

Enforcement

Campus security will be authorized to enforce parking regulations. Violations may result in fines, towing, and/or loss of parking privileges. Appeals for parking citations can be submitted through the designated procedure.
