Department of Orthopaedics: Policy on Compensated Time
Introduction
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to define the process for Compensated Time.
Scope
This policy applies to all hourly paid employees (SHRA Non-Exempt Employees) in the Department of Orthopaedics.
Policy
Policy Statement
Any employee working additional hours outside of the regular work schedule may be eligible for Compensated Time or Paid Overtime. Any request to work extra hours for Compensated Time or Overtime must be pre-approved by the Associate Chair of Administration.
On some occasions, the supervisor may ask SHRA Non-Exempt Employees to work additional hours outside of their regular work schedule. The employee's supervisor / or faculty supervisor must request overtime approval from the Associate Chair of Administration at least 24 hours before the work takes place.
Any hours worked without prior approval will result in disciplinary action.
- Compensated Time is accrued at 1.5 times the regular rate for any hours worked over 40 hours in one week.
- Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the regular rate and may only be requested for work performed at the weekends for special events
All employees must use Accrued Compensated Time before sick and vacation time. Unused Compensated Time at the end of 12 months will expire, and the university will pay the employee.
