Introduction

Purpose

This Procedure provides important steps for complying with requirements under the Department’s Call Schedule Policy.

Scope

Applicable to all faculty in the Call schedule, and administrative staff members responsible for call scheduling.

Procedure

A. Call Schedule Development

  1. Weekday Call: Administrative staff must finalize weekday call quarterly based on the faculty information in Qgenda.
  2. Weekend or Holiday Call: Administrative staff must finalize all weekend and holiday call once a year using the information in Qgenda.
  3. Personal preferences: faculty preferences on preferred call dates and times may be considered in scheduling if it will not otherwise conflict with the Call Schedule Policy, this Procedure or Departmental priorities.

B. Changes to Call Schedule

Assigned, faculty may only make changes by swapping with another faculty member. Faculty must notify administrative staff promptly to capture any changes in Qgenda.

C. Geographic Considerations in Call Assignments

In scheduling call, the Department will prioritize assignment to those who are in the Chapel Hill, Durham and Raleigh area that day as much as possible. When possible, call will not be assigned to those outside the Chapel Hill, Durham and Raleigh area on that particular day.

D. Fellowship Call: Administrative staff must assign fellowship call as follows:

  1. Rhinology/SB Fellows – Will cover Rhinology/SB and weekends for General
    1. Facial Plastics – Will cover Facial Plastics and Voice & Swallowing
    2. Head and Neck – Will cover Head and Neck Only
    3. Otology – Will cover Otology Only
    4. Peds – Will cover Peds Only

Exceptions

Any exceptions to this Procedure must be approved by: Dana M. Clifton.
