Policy
Policy Statement
The University is committed to promoting an environment where all members of the campus community can learn, work, and live free from physical or psychological injury incurred during recruitment, initiation processes, and participation in a student organization, group, club, or athletics team. To this end, the University prohibits hazing and works to prevent and address all incidents of hazing involving members of the campus community. In accordance with the Stop Campus Hazing Act, an amendment to the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act, the University will compile hazing statistics for the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, publish and regularly update a Campus Hazing Transparency Report, and provide hazing prevention awareness programming.
The University definition of hazing can be found in the Student Code of Conduct. For purposes of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, the University will use the Clery Act's definition of hazing.
Hazing is prohibited by the Student Code of Conduct and the University’s Workplace Violence Policy. All individuals, including campus and community members, are strongly encouraged to report incidents of suspected hazing to the University. University members who are designated as Campus Security Authorities are required to report incidents of suspected hazing to the University's Clery Coordinator.
Individuals may report hazing allegations or concerns involving students by using the Office of Student Conduct’s electronic reporting form.
Individuals may report hazing allegations or concerns involving employees, contractors, visitors, and other third parties within the University's control by using the University Compliance Office’s electronic reporting form.
The Office of Student Conduct and the University Compliance Office have authority to oversee the investigation of, response to, and resolution of all reports of hazing. Reports of hazing will be addressed as set out in the Student Conduct Procedures, procedures associated with the Policy on Prohibited Discrimination, Harassment and Related Misconduct, and/or Workplace Violence Procedures, as applicable. Retaliation for reporting or participating in investigations of hazing is prohibited by the Student Code of Conduct and the Workplace Violence Policy.
More information about the University’s efforts to address hazing can be found on the University's hazing webpage.
