Policy
Policy Statement
Tuition Remissions may be recommended by University departments and schools for non-resident students under the following conditions as established by the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina:
- Undergraduate students awarded an institutional scholarship for a special talent (reduced non-resident tuition rate)
- Graduate students awarded an assistantship or fellowship for a special talent involving the performance of certain duties for which a stipend is paid (N.C. resident tuition rate)
These rates are contingent upon the student remaining registered for the entire term. If the student withdraws, the tuition remission is revoked and non-resident tuition must be paid.
Only deans, directors, chairmen, and other senior University administrators may recommend special non-resident tuition rates for particularly talented non-resident students. Recommendations should be forwarded to the appropriate office for approval - undergraduate special talent recommendations to the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid, graduate service fellowship/assistantship recommendations to the Graduate School.
